At Health Champions we love food and believe everyone should be able to eat a nutritious diet to achieve better health. We aren’t chefs, but we cook for our family, friends, neighbours and colleagues and know how food and health are completely entwined together.
Karen Dennison, Director – the practical one!
Karen managed wellbeing projects in the NHS for over 10 years. She has studied nutrition, health promotion and education at postgraduate level. Karen also currently holds the post of training manager within the Early Help Service for West Sussex County Council. Prior to this she was course leader for the Access to Health and Health Sciences course at Northbrook College, being awarded the students teaching award for two years running, demonstrating her commitment to teaching and learning. She has particular expertise in running our "Cooking with Confidence" course and the "Train the Trainer" course.
She loves to help people to just get on and have a go, but at the same time ensuring that they are learning by doing. She is extremely good at coaching and mentoring students to achieve the best they possibly can.
Denise Kennedy, Director – the scientific one!
Denise is a Registered Dietitian and Consultant Nutritionist and has worked all her career around food and nutrition, including in the food industry, in public health, education and communications. She is also an experienced children’s dietitian, working with children and their families who need dietary expertise for a variety of reasons, including weight management, food allergy, particular eating habits and tube feeding in children with complex needs.
Denise loves to help people to understand more about the food they eat and how to achieve their personal dietary goals. She is involved with teaching and training on lots of areas including health, weight management, allergy, children’s diets and is very happy to be quizzed about all aspects of food.
